Andrew Albert, born in Lyon (Rhone) May 24, 1869 and died in Laudun (Gard) July 11, 1954, was a French figurative painter.
biography

In 1889 he moved to Paris to enroll at the Academie Julian. He met Ranson, Valtat and Georges d'Espagnat. He also frequents the Nabis he will draw heavily in its infancy: Bonnard, Vuillard, Denis, Valloton. Then he met Marquet and Signac.

In 1894, he participated in the independent living with five paintings by Auguste Renoir quickly noticed. Despite their age difference a solid friendship will unite them to the death of Renoir in 1919. This unexpected encounter will actually guide the career and life of Albert André. Through the merchant Renoir, Paul Durand-Ruel, Albert Andre will sell much in the United States.

Demobilized in 1917, he moved to Marseille near Marquet. He then leaves to Laudun (Gard) where he had been on vacation since his childhood in the village where his family owned a house and a small vineyard. Driven by Renoir that's when he accepted the position of curator of Bagnols-sur-Cèze (nearby Laudun) he held until his death in 1954.

Albert Andre was very close to the art critic George Besson, with whom he befriended in 1910. In 1971 Georges Besson decides to offer his art collection to the nation bequeathing to the museums of Besançon and Bagnols-sur-Cèze.

The art museum of Bagnols-sur-Cèze now bears his name: Andrew Albert Museum.
