The so-called Kappel milk soup is at the center of an important event in the history of Switzerland. End of June 1529, the Zurich troops marched against the central Swiss cantons. In this First Kappel War could be avoided thanks to mediation by the Confederates under the neutral places a fratricidal war. [1] [2]

According to the reports made ​​use of the common foot soldiers of both armies, the time that the leaders were negotiating to a brotherhood and stood on the border between the cantons of a large cooking pot on a fire. The Zug said to have contributed the milk and bread for the Zurich-milk soup, the two armies eating together.

In Ebertswil today is the milk soup stone, a monument that commemorates this process. For the later history and identity in Switzerland, the big pot from which all have dinner together, had a great symbolic value.

In commemoration of this event still served Kappeler milk soup, if a dispute could be settled through negotiation, such as by Federal Councillor Pascal Couchepin at the conclusion of the St. Gallen cultural heritage dispute.
