Nubian Woman

Jules Robert Auguste (1789 – 15 April 1850) was a French painter associated with Romanticism and classicism.

 Friend of Géricault, with whom he shares a passion for horses, it is he who directed him to painting, as he intended to sculpture. He then became a pupil of Pierre Cartellier L'Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1806 and received the Grand Prix de Rome in 1810. In Rome he met Ingres. His travels in Greece, Egypt, Morocco made ​​it one of the first painters of Orientalism. Eugene Delacroix has used some of the souvenirs he brought back from his travels to compose his first paintings orientalistes1. He also excels in watercolor and pastel.

Secret character who flattered to be in painting an amateur in life and a perfect dandy, he died in 1850.
